Lithuanian first
The inventory follows Lithuanian phonemes, vowel length, diphthongs, palatalization, and legal syllable shapes instead of Latin spelling habits.
Mythographic sources
Major graphemes are abstracted from Lithuanian deities, mythical figures, beings, places, or folkloric associations.
Syllable-aware spelling
Full graphemes carry the main syllable material, while many coda consonants become diacritics attached to the syllable base.
Independent j-vowels
Palatal or /j/-onset vowel forms are not predictable marks added to plain vowels; they have their own graphic identities.
Unit diphthongs and affricates
Diphthongs such as ai and au, and sounds such as č, dz, and ch, may behave as single orthographic units.
Phonotactics over habit
Where Latin convention and Lithuanian sound structure conflict, Austi Lapeliai follows the sound structure.
